Why I LOVE being a Fitness Coach!

I’m feeling so inspired right now by my Team at Being-Fit, this includes the staff (Todd, Rebecca, and Emberlin), the other fitness coaches (Kash and Catherine), and our AWESOME MEMBERS!  A couple of weeks ago we did a Plank-Off Challenge in our Team Training Classes, which are a part of our personal training program.  The goal was to see who could hold the basic plank the longest amount of time!  Did I mention that they had to hold this plank, AFTER they finished a high intensity metabolic workout!  Whew…  I never imagined what would happen when we did this and it really solidified my love for coaching.

WOW!  Did our Team really get involved and support each other.  The challenge went on for the whole week, so people could try to improve their time or beat whomever was in the lead!  There was lots of friendly trash talking going on between members, the coaches, and on the FB page to keep everyone wanting to do better throughout the week.  Almost everyday there was someone new in the lead, which goes to show how a little friendly competition plays a big role in our physical output.

I realized that we are all stronger than we think we are, especially when we are together.  The encouragement we get from other’s helps us strive to be better ourselves.  Friendly competition is great for pushing peoples’ limits and improves our self-confidence, too.  Even the person who was in the lead during the challenge, cheered on the participant that was beating her time!  It feels so awesome to be a part of that kind of camaraderie.

I even saw people get excited to come in for an extra workout during the week, just to get another chance to beat their times or someone else’s time.  Wow, if I would’ve known that to get people in for an extra workout, all we needed was a competition, I would’ve been doing this more often 😉

However, the real competition when it comes to physical challenges is really between you and yourself.  You and I can get a little bit better time each time we try something.  It’s fun to have friendly competition, but I saw my WHOLE TEAM get to be WINNERS!  I believe almost everyone improved their times or held a plank longer than they thought they could, and that is where my job as a coach is so rewarding.  I love to see people do something that they didn’t think was possible a day, few months, or a year ago.

Other Reasons why I love Coaching:

I love seeing the look of triumph on people’s face when they accomplish something they never thought they could do before.

I get to see body transformations.  The changes the body is able to make with CONSISTENT, healthy eating and a proper exercise regimen, no matter someone’s age, is AMAZING.  I love when people come in and they are in smaller jeans, weigh less, have reduced their body fat percentage, or their waist size is smaller.  These transformations really improve someone’s self-confidence in themselves, and I love being a part of it.

I feel stronger when I see other people be strong and accomplish things that they didn’t think they could do.  It makes me more confident that I can do the impossible.

I love to hear and see how someone’s workouts in the gym are making them stronger out in their lives, their jobs, or just their everyday activities of daily living.  They can carry more groceries, do yard work with ease, walk further and longer, etc.

I get to see people overcome injuries and get back to their normal routines, or because of working out and being strong in the gym, people have recovered more quickly from knee and hip replacements, rotator cuff injuries, back injuries, cancer treatment, and other illnesses and surgeries.

I love seeing people reduce the amount or completely stop having to take Insulin because of their Type 1 or 2 Diabetes, through  a healthy diet and being consistent with their fitness regimen.  People are also able to get off blood pressure and cholesterol medications.  The less medicine one has to take, the better for their health and their wallets!

I also get to experience being surrounded by other fitness coaches!  Just because I’m a coach, doesn’t mean that I don’t need a fitness coach, too!  Alicia, Daniel, Catherine, Andy, and Kash, have always been there to encourage me to push my limits and to do things I didn’t think were possible for me! I’m so thankful theses guys are a part of my support network.  Not to mention, that the member’s at Being-Fit also care for and support me in my challenges, as I am supporting them.

The list could go on and on, but I just know that I feel so grateful and lucky to be a coach, part of a team, and a support network that is bigger than me.  What a blessing!

I truly believe that movement is one of the most important parts of life and it carries over into other areas of our lives and helps us strive to do better!  When I hit a strength goal that I thought I could never do, it gets me to thinking, well I accomplished that ….what’s next!  It’s the what’s next that keeps us progressing further into our lives and on our journey!

If you don’t feel supported in your goals or in your life, please seek out and find the support and connection you are looking for!  If you’ve never had a fitness coach before, think about hiring one.  I’m certain you will see a big difference in your performance than going at it alone.  You can always be a part of my team 😉  We all need and want, connection and support, and to belong to a team or a cause.  It is in our human nature.

I can’t imagine doing anything else but coaching, whether it be in person, online, or via telephone!  In helping and supporting others, I in return, feel connection, support, and learn things about life from the people I am coaching!  We are all STRONGER TOGETHER, and I am so honored by all of you that are a part of my #fitandfab tribe.

Thanks for stopping by,

Tommie
