Why Can’t I Stop Eating at Night?

Ever wonder why we start the day out so strong and full of self-control?  I mean we resisted the cupcakes, chocolates, and candy dish all day long at work, so why once we get home are we scavenging for everything in sight?  At this point, ANYTHING will do…crackers, cookies, chips, the kid’s goldfish….What Happened?   WILLPOWER is what HAPPENED….Drained and Depleted so there goes any and all Self-Control left at the end of the day right out the window, too!   Willpower is finite and can be depleted.  This is a #truth for EVERYONE.  We only have so much of it everyday to use for our various tasks.   All of our tasks throughout the day are whittling away our Willpower. This includes but is not limited to; not caving into cravings for sugar, fatty foods, or processed carbohydrates, making sure you get your exercise in after a long day at […]

4 Ways We Sabotage Our Healthy Eating

Today, I want to talk about how we sabotage our healthy eating and weight loss efforts. But first….a quick announcement that my Online Group Coaching Program, The Small Change Project, designed to get you on your way to losing your next 10-20 pounds, increasing your energy, and feeling happier and more confident in your clothes this summer is open for enrollment until Sunday, 6/12/2016.  The program starts June 15, 2016.  Grab Your Spot Here.     Now back to self-sabotage…..We’re all tired of feeling like we’re always starting over, but we just can’t help ourselves.   We’ve done a ton of diets &/or meal plans that are restrictive or packed with foods that we don’t like, but we continue to white knuckle and willpower our way through every miserable moment of it.   But then, LIFE HAPPENS, and we “fall off the wagon” and have a “forbidden” food not […]

How to Stay Healthy on Vacation & Avoid Peer Pressure

If you’ve ever been on vacation with a group of people, you may know what I mean by vacation peer pressure, especially if you’ve been working to achieve certain health and fitness goals during this time and don’t want to get off track. And if you don’t know what I mean, it usually sounds something like this, “Oh…go ahead and eat that.  It’s no big deal, you’re on vacation.” “Come on….You don’t need to workout today because you workout everyday at home.  It’s okay to take a few days off.” “One little bite isn’t going to hurt you…..” It’s true, probably one little bite won’t hurt us, but for some of us, one little bite turns into a lot of bites, and then a full on binge, so why even get started…..if you DON’T WANT to. Now I truly believe that the person saying these things isn’t meaning to really grow […]

Should I Get a Fitbit Activity Tracker?

I wrote a blog about what I think is one of the first skills to acquire along your health and fitness journey, or any goal for that matter.  If you have the time, you can read it HERE. I feel very strongly that awareness (w/out judgement) is the best skill to have.  Without it, we aren’t really aware of the choices, behaviors, or habits we are choosing or not choosing to engage in. The BEST way to increase our Awareness (w/out judgement) is through Self-Monitoring. Because as we say in the fitness field, “What gets Measured….Gets Managed!” I can tell you from my own personal experience that self-monitoring was one of the ways I reached my fat loss goals a couple of years ago.  I was tracking my habits I was working on, doing weekly weigh-ins & circumference measurements, progress pics every 6 weeks, and measuring my body fat percentage every 8-10 weeks […]

Healthy Snacks to Take on The Road

Summer is in full swing, and I bet that some of you have some road trips or vacations planned.  You could be heading to your favorite amusement or water park, to visit friends and family at the lake or river, or to just go camping for the weekend.   I had the priviledge of going to the Grand Canyon last summer.  That’s about a 8-9 hour road trip from San Diego, each way.  Now, I don’t know about you, but I don’t really like to get out of my normal healthy eating routine and exchange it for one filled with junk food and fast food.     I also don’t want to be a weirdo and alienate myself from my friends and pack too much food, that may go to waste.  It’s inevitable that while you are on the road, that you are going to eat some processed food. […]
