What Do You See When You Look in the Mirror?

What do you see when you look in the mirror?   Most of us, when asked that question will default to what we “perceive” as faults or flaws.  Notice I said perceive, because this is subjective and from our view point, as we are more critical of ourselves than others are of us.  What we think is beautiful others may find ugly and vice versa.   Not to mention, that a lot of our “perceived” flaws are because of what we see the media deem as acceptable. And if we don’t measure up, than something is wrong with us.   I know, as a woman, how hard it can be getting dressed in the morning, for a social event, or trying on clothes in a dressing room.   Instead of focusing on how certain clothes make us feel, we are highly concerned with what these clothes look like on our body, and if […]

Instead of a Cheat Day…Try This!

Do you have a Cheat Day?   I recently got asked if I have cheat day in regards to the way I eat?  I replied, “Nope!”  I don’t believe in cheat days and here’s why…”   Before I go into my explanation, I want to tell you that I used to have cheat days back in the day, and found it didn’t work for me for a lot of different reasons.   Cheat days easily turn into —> cheat weekends —> which easily turn into cheat weeks —> then into cheat months!  And before you know it, you’ve fallen off the wagon, the wheels have come off the wagon, and the wagon has exploded.   Then you’re scrambling and desperate to pick up the pieces and start your diet over by restricting again to make up for all this binging and fun you’ve been having with food.  And the cycle just keeps […]

Are You Addicted to Chocolate &/or Wine? Find Out What It’s Costing You!

“Every decision you make in life is to either avoid pain or gain pleasure.” –   Sigmund Freud – The Pleasure Principle   It sounds like a bold statement from what some would think of as a Coo-Coo Psychoanalyst.  But, as I got to thinking about it more, it’s pretty darn true!  We are ultimately avoiding pain or gaining pleasure through our daily actions and decisions we make in each moment.   For instance, think about all the pleasure we get from: reading & learning something new to advance your life planning our next travel adventure scrolling through FB for a quick distraction working out & eating healthy going to work volunteering for a worthy cause saving money for the future socializing and hanging with friends and family   On the flip side, look at some of things we do to avoid pain or painful feelings: binge on foods high […]

These 3 Words Can Change Your Life

Have you ever been thinking about a change that you want to make in your life and said, “I need to do or stop doing_________, I should do/or stop doing ___________, or I have to do/stop doing ___________!”  I’m sure you have.  I know that I have and still say those words sometimes.  But these days, I try to be a little more careful of those words!   For example, I need to stop eating sugar.  Go ahead and say that statement aloud to yourself.  After you say it, what happens?  Do you start to think about eating sugar, feel a little angry, resentful, deprived, or does any other emotion come up?  I’m willing to bet that whatever comes up is some form of RESISTANCE!  I want to answer back, “Why? Says Who? I like sugar, and this is going to be hard.  I don’t want to do that!”   […]

How Do I Get More Willpower?

Willpower is finite and can be depleted.  This is a #truth for EVERYONE.  We only have so much of it everyday to use for our various tasks. This includes but is not limited to; not caving into cravings for sugar, fatty foods, or processed carbohydrates, making sure you get your exercise in after a long day at work when you’re tired, pushing through long hours to make a deadline, &/or not slapping that annoying co-worker that you can’t stand.   All of this already sounds exhausting doesn’t it? I’m exhausted after just writing about it ;).  No wonder we’re looking for ways to indulge our impulses and cravings later in the day and evening.  We just want some relief for our stress and to feel better.   But wait….Here’s the GOOD NEWS!  We can make our willpower stronger over time because it’s a lot like a muscle.  But, it […]
